A zombie is the soulless, re-animated corpse of a once living being. According to Raiden's bio in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, there once existed an ancient cult of Necromancers, known as the Houan, who had the ability to raise the dead. They would use the zombies to do their bidding. However, they were eventually defeated by Raiden, and he later used their dark sorcery to re-animate the body of Liu Kang.
