Liu Kang
Mortal Kombat 1
Liu Kang is a shaolin monk who follows the teachings of the White Lotus Society. He was trained by the Outworld martial arts master Bo' Rai Cho. Throughout the Mortal Kombat series, Liu Kang has consistently been portrayed as the hero, becoming champion in the first Mortal Kombat game. He went on to remain champion after Mortal Kombat II, defeated Shao Kahn during his invasion in Mortal Kombat 3, and defeated Shinnok during his invasion of Edenia in Mortal Kombat 4/Gold. However, his reign as champion ended during the events leading up to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

In preparation for the first Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang was chosen by the Temple of Light to fight in the tournament. Living up to his title as the chosen one, he successfully defeated Shang Tsung and prevented Earthrealm from being merged with Outworld. However, this enraged Shao Kahn, and he sent a Tarkatan horde to Earthrealm to attack the Wu Shi academy. Liu Kang was too late, however. Upon returning from Shang Tsung's island, he found the academy in flames, with many of his shaolin brothers killed. Enraged, he traveled to Outworld, with the aid of Kung Lao, to challenge Shao Kahn in Outworld. This led to the second Mortal Kombat tournament.

Liu managed to defeat many enemies while in Outworld, eventually earning the right to challenge Shao Kahn. He was able to overpower the emperor, however, Kahn would not accept defeat quietly. He ordered all of his forces to destroy the Earthrealm warriors. Luckily, they managed to escape back to Earthrealm before being caught.

Earthrealm was now believed to be safe from Shao Kahn and his forces. However, Kahn took advantage of a loophole in the Elder God's rules, and managed to open another portal to Earthrealm. This time, sending extermination squads to kill all of Earthrealm's peoples so he could harvest their souls and merge Earthrealm with Outworld. During battle, Kung Lao was defeated by Shao Kahn. Believing him to be dead, Liu Kang challenged the emperor to Mortal Kombat. Once again, Liu Kang managed to defeat Shao Kahn, forcing him and his forces to retreat back to Outworld.

After Shao Kahn's invasion, Liu Kang decided to travel to America and look for a new generation of shaolin warriors to train. While there, he was reunited with his old friend Kai. The two traveled back to China, where Liu Kang began training Kai. However, it was during this time of peace that Shinnok escaped the Netherrealm and invaded Edenia. Learning of Kitana's capture, Liu Kang traveled to Edenia alone to defeat the fallen Elder God. He was unsuccessful, however, unable to defeat Shinnok and his Army of Darkness. He returned to Earthrealm and gathered up all of Earthrealm's chosen warriors. When they returned to Edenia, they were able to overpower Shinnok's army, allowing Liu Kang a chance to challenge the fallen Elder God. Once again, Liu Kang was successful and the realms were at peace, once again.

For years, the realms remained at peace. Liu Kang was able to live out his days training at the Wu Shi Academy. However, after Quan Chi's escape from the Netherrealm, he formed an alliance with Shang Tsung. The two managed to sneak into the Wu Shi Academy and ambush Liu Kang. While he fought valiantly, the two sorcerers' combined power was too much for Liu Kang. He was eventually overpowered and killed by Shang Tsung. Finding his lifeless body, Kung Lao laid his friend to rest in a shrine built in his honor at the Wu Shi Academy.

During the events leading up to Mortal Kombat: Deception, Onaga, the Dragon King, had returned. During a fight between Raiden and the deadly alliance in Shang Tsung's palace, Onaga made his presence known. The three attempted to use their combined power to defeat the Dragon King, but their attempts were futile. Realizing this, Raiden released is Godlike essence in an immense ethereal blast, hoping to destroy Onaga, but it had little effect. However, the blast managed to injure the two sorcerers enough to allow many of Shang Tsung's trapped souls to escape. One of which being Liu Kang.

During the events of Mortal Kombat: Deception, Raiden used his power to re-animate the corpse of Liu Kang and use it as a tool of destruction, killing all that stood in his way. Disheartened by the actions of his body, Liu Kang somehow manages to enlist Ermac to aid him in defeating Onaga, and stopping his body from doing anymore harm. He manages to save the Earthrealm warriors under Onaga's control, however, he is unable to reunite his soul with his body.

However, in Liu Kang's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ending, it is revealed that upon defeating Blaze, the godlike power bestowed upon him allowed Liu Kang to finally reunite his soul and body. He then confronts Raiden, and reluctantly defeats him. The Elder Gods than appoint Liu Kang as the new protector of Earthrealm.

Game Bios
Once a member of the super secret White Lotus Society, Liu Kang left the organization in order to represent Shaolin temples in the Tournament. Kang is strong in his beliefs and despises Shang Tsung.
After winning the Shaolin Tournament from Shang Tsung's clutches Kang returns to his temples. He discovers his sacred home in ruins, his Shaolin brothers killed in a vicious battle with a horde of Outworld warriors. Now he travels into the Dark Realm to seek revenge.
After the Outworld invasion, Liu Kang finds himself the prime target of Kahn's extermination squads. He is the Shaolin Champion and has thwarted Kahn's schemes in the past. Of all the humans, Kang poses the greatest threat to Shao Kahn's rule.
Still the immortal champion of Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang finds himself venturing into the realm of Edenia to rescue the princess Kitana from the vile clutches of Quan Chi. Unsuccessful in his mission, Liu returns to Earth and mounts an effort to bring together Earths greatest warriors. He does it this time not only to free Kitana's home world but also to assist his mentor and Earth's protector - Raiden.
The sorcerer Shang Tsung had killed me and consumed my soul. I remained trapped within his being, tormented by his evil, along with many other victims of his vampiric soul drain. Through Shang Tsung's eyes, we witnessed the battle with Raiden, who sacrificed himself to stop Onaga. Raiden's blast destroyed Shang Tsung, and our souls were free to ascend into the heavens. I remained in Outworld, however, to aid my friends in the fight against the Dragon King.

Why someone would desecrate my grave and reanimate my body, I cannot say. Somehow my corpse retains my knowledge of martial arts and has killed many innocents. Though I am not the perpetrator of these slayings, I cannot help but feel responsible for the brutality committed by my corporal form. The battle between mind and body has begun.
Orphaned at a very young age, Liu Kang was raised by Shaolin monks, who taught him the way of the spiritual warrior. They soon recognized his potential as a contender for the Mortal Kombat tournament and rigorously trained him for this task. Raiden, too, understood that Liu Kang was Earthrealm's best hope for freedom and introduced him to Master Bo' Rai Cho to further his development. Once fully trained, Liu Kang bested all challengers and earned the high honor of representing the Shaolin in the Mortal Kombat tournament. He and Raiden then embarked on their fateful journey to Shang Tsung's island to compete in this pivotal kontest.
Liu Kang was Earthrealm's champion, winner of two straight Mortal Kombat tournaments. Under Raiden's tutelage, Liu Kang defeated both Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, becoming a legend throughout the realm. But when Shao Kahn's Outworld forces invaded Earthrealm, Liu Kang split with Raiden over how to respond. During a disagreement between them, Liu Kang was accidentally killed. His soul was collected by Quan Chi, who used it to create and evil "revenant" version of Liu Kang. He now serves Quan Chi and the Netherrealm.
Shaolin monk and Champion of Earthrealm. Liu Kang was an orphan adopted and trained in the arts of kombat by the Shaolin order. He honored them by defeating Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat and saving Earthrealm as "the Chosen One," a title that weighs heavy on his shoulders.
Having won control of the Hourglass, Liu Kang restarted history. He neutralized the threats and dangers that had come before, crafting a New Era in which all beings would have the opportunity to find peace.

But that peace is now threatened by an enemy that Liu Kang could never have anticipated. It will take all of his wisdom and experience to save not only Earthrealm, but all of reality.
Game Endings
After defeating mighty, Goro and putting an end to Shang Tsung's rule over the Tournament, Kang is able to return the contest to it's rightful hosts - the Shaolin Temples.

Kang's heroics will always be remembered. He will continue the traditions of the Shaolin Temples and restore the true pride and respect of this once great tournament.
With his Shaolin temple in ruins, Liu Kang journeys into the Outworld, enters Shao Kahn's tournament and unleashes a fury that does not end until the defeat of Shao Kahn. Liu Kang then returns to the seclusion of his Shaolin temple.

He pays his respects to his lost brothers and finally realizes that the events which have taken place were all fulfillment of his destiny.
After Kahn's takeover of Earth, Liu Kang finds himself the prime target of Shao Kahn's extermination squads. Kang is the reigning Mortal Kombat Champion and has proved it by easily defeating Kahn's minions.

But it is the apparent death of Shaolin brother Kung Lao that enrages Kang and enables him to find the strength to defeat Shao Kahn. Then, before the portal closes, Liu Kang is greeted by Princess Kitana and thanked for saving Earth and the Outworld.
Liu Kang: The war is over. I once again defended my title as champion of Mortal Kombat and defended the realm of Earth, but I have failed to save the realm of Edenia. In doing so, I have also lost Kitana, forever.

* Kitana appears from portal

Liu Kang: Kitana?

Kitana: Yes, Liu Kang. It is I.

Liu Kang: But I thought you were gonna...

Kitana: With Shinnok's destruction, you have not only saved the Earth, but you have also saved my own realm. For that, I can never repay you.

Liu Kang: Knowing that you survived is all that I need.

Kitana: As heir to the thrown of my realm, I offer you the chance to rule at my side as king of Edenia, forever.

Liu Kang: I cannot accept your offer. I belong here on Earth as champion of Mortal Kombat.

Kitana: Then, I wish you good luck, Liu Kang, on all your journeys.

Liu Kang: Goodbye princess Kitana.
Liu Kang's friends had been freed. Onaga had been defeated, and the realms were secure once more. But there was one battle that remained. Liu Kang's body had been used by some unknown force as a tool of destruction. It had left death in its wake and needed to be stopped. The chaos would end in Earthrealm.

The fight raged with neither kombatant able to best the other, when a jolt of energy crackled through them both. Liu Kang's nerves blazed like fire, and he felt a rush of air fill his lungs for the first time since his death. He was Liu Kang once more: Protector of Earthrealm, Champion of Mortal Kombat.
The power released by Blaze's destruction reunited Liu Kang's body and soul. Whole once more and possessing the power of a god, he confronted Raiden, who had been corrupted by his suicide. Liu Kang reluctantly defeated his mentor in an epic clash. With consent of the Elder Gods, he replaced Raiden as Protector of Earthrealm.
Having defeated Shao Kahn, Liu Kang believed he was the only one capable of defending Earthrealm against outside threats. During the invasion Raiden had been more burden than ally. Brazenly he demanded the Elder Gods grant him the thunder god's status. In a one-match Mortal Kombat tournament, Liu Kang defeated his former friend and mentor. Liu Kang's request was granted. He was made a god?the new Protector of Earthrealm.
With Shinnok defeated, Liu Kang explored the Netherrealm--a world that, without Shinnok's controlling power, had descended into chaos. Liu Kang was no sorcerer or Elder God, but his fighting skill was more than enough to beat Netherrealm's demons into submission. Liu Kang realized that Netherrealm was his for the taking--and that ruling appealed to him. He would assume Shinnok's throne--and ponder the konquering of other realms.
