Furious 7 director James Wan has been selected to assist production for the next Mortal Kombat film.Wan is also known for his work in the horror genre with The Conjuring and Insidious franchises.
For the past several years, Mortal Kombat has been aiming to make a comeback to the big screen. New Line Cinema and Broken Road Productions are currently in the process of rebooting the franchise, using a script by Oren Uziel, who also wrote the Mortal Kombat Legacy web series, and Dave Callaham (Doom).
The studios have described the new movie as a "departure from the original mythology" with "darker, brutally real martial arts." The story will focus on "a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as 'Mortal Kombat'."

The movie has been planned for many years, all i hope is that we get a decent movie. I think James Wan is a very clever choiceas a producer and it would be a genious one if he also directed it.

If he doesn't back out like other guy. Info want to see on filming or going to think it may not happen. Don't know about him never heard of him until announcement of him producing but definitaly going to watch in theatres.

He directed the first SAW movie and produced all its sequels, he also directed Dead Silence, The Conjuring 1, Insidious 1 and 2 and of course Furious 7. So i think he is more than capable to make the new MK movie into a blockbuster...

Wan offered 'life altering' money for Furious 8 due in April 2017 but declined for health and demanding Furious 7 was. Does this mean he is backing out Mortal Kombat 3 movie?

Don't think he will back out. Probably strenous on Furious movie for him probably make good money for MK.
