netherrealm_studios.jpgNetherRealm Studios held it's fourth Mortal Kombat X live stream yesterday featuring the return of a klassic finishing move not seen in any of the main fighting game titles since Mortal Kombat Trilogy - the Brutality.

However, this time around, brutalities are a little bit different than they were back in the Mortal Kombat Trilogy days. Instead of a long button sequence to perform a combo resulting in your opponent exploding, they are now basically unique kill moves that can be performed when your opponent has very little health left in the winning round, and certain criteria has been met throughout the match.

The developers stated in the stream that there are over 100 brutalities in the game, suggesting that each character will have several. Each brutality will have different criteria that will have to be met in order to perform them, with some being more difficult than others. They also mentioned that there will be hidden brutalities, as well.

The brutality begins around the 17:50 mark.

* Yes I know there are "Heroic Brutalities" in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, but they are not finishing moves that result in the death of your opponent. They were basically just a way for the good DC characters to finish their opponents without killing them. I don't believe them to be related to actual brutalities in any way.

Hidden Brutalities? Shujinko - Woah I think this game will surpass my expectations for blood and gore by far... and we have only seen a small glimpse... i wonder what's next... Daegon - Hmmm
The new brutalities grew on me and I can't stop thinking of ways to style on people. Definitely my go to finisher. Even better not having to sit through a drawn out cinematic.

I still love the classic brutalities, too.

Overall, I'm happy my favorite finisher is back.
I would have preferred it if you HAD to do a long combo and then it ended with the new brutalities.
