While doing some Christmas shopping last night at a local Toys 'R' Us, I stumpled across
Jazwares Inc.'s latest
Mortal Kombat boxset. Included in the set are
Scorpion,
Reptile,
Sub-Zero, and
Human Smoke all in their klassic attire.
While looking at the picture below, you might think this set looks awesome! Well, it does...in the picture. Let me explain. When you look closely at the figures, the paint apps are horrible - especially the faces. Either the their facial expressions look like they need to find a bathroom really badly, or the eyes are looking in two completely different directions. Also, of the four sets I found (16 figures), several of them had costume color paint smears on their arms. Due to the poor quality of the figures and the $50 price tag, this was an easy pass for me.

However, the set is not all bad. If you can get past the horrible paint apps, it does have some redeeming features. Both
Scorpion and
Reptile come with alternate unmasked heads, and each figure has a tiny version of itself so you can re-create their klassic friendship stance. These are what the secret accessories are that the packaging refers to.
I'm not sure what's going on with
Jazwares lately, but the quality control on their recent MK9 and klassic toylines has been very disappointing. I opted not to purchase any of the 6-inch MK9 figures for my personal collection due to the paint apps. Even my 11yo thought they looked awful. I seriously wish a more reputable toy company such as
NECA,
McFarlane, or
DC Direct (which is owned by
Warner Bros. for crying out loud!) would have produced
MK figures instead.
