mortalkombat_legacy.jpgOk, this was an interesting episode. Dark and gritty like the original Rebirth trailer, but also very strange as well. Apparently, Raiden comes down to aid Earthrealm in a Mortal Kombat tournament, but arrives near a mental facility. Wearing all white, the guards mistake him for a patient, and he is quickly captured. Why the god of thunder cannot simply take out three simple humans is beyond me. It's gets weirder from here.

Raiden spends months in the asylum, enduring round after round of drugs and apparent labotomies. Why he doesn't use his powers throughout this whole ordeal is also very confusing. He finally escapes when a fellow female patient named "Blue" kills him at his request to free his essence.

I felt that the episode was in the right direction of the Rebirth trailer, however the concept of the god of thunder not being able to escape from a mental asylum was ridiculous. Maybe the episode would have made a lot more sense if a different character was stuck in there like Johnny Cage or Liu Kang. Throughout the entire episode I couldnt help but think why doesn't he just teleport out of there??!!
Not bad Dairou - Clap
It was awkwardly very good!!!A possible explanation for not escaping the asylum could be that he somehow lost his powers, making him mortal and when the guards tried to stop him with the tazer guns,he kind of partially recharged. Can't really think of anything else.

yeah I was thinking this as well, but at the same time they said they were giving him large doses of Ketamine to keep him controlled so I imagine perhaps that explains why he was unable to simply use his powers.

Q) What are the effects of Ketamine?

A) I.M. (intra-muscular injection) Ketamine generally takes 1-5 minutes to take effect. Snorted ketamine takes a little longer at 5-15 minutes. Depending on how much and how recently one has eaten, oral ketamine can take between 5 and 30 minutes to take effect. The primary effects of ketamine last approximately an 30-45 minutes if injected, 45-60 minutes when snorted, and 1-2 hours if used orally. The Drug Enforcement Administration reports that the drug can still affect the body for up to 24 hours.

Hallucinations- it blocks chemical messengers in the brain that carry sensory input; the brain fills the resulting void with visions, dreams, memories, whatever
Visual distortions
Lost sense of time, senses, and identity
Euphoria
Confusion
Smells and tastes seem muted
Visual perception and sense of touch are amplified
May feel floaty- slightly or far away from your body
Numbness in your extremities
K Hole- comparatively similar to a near death experience, with the sensation of rising above one?s body, inner peace, and radiant light.

Q) What are the side effects of Ketamine?

A) The use of Ketamine can result in profound physical and mental problems including delirium, amnesia, impaired motor function and potentially fatal respiratory problems. Panic, rage and paranoia may also occur. Some people feel paralyzed by the drug, unable to speak without slurring, while others either feel sick or actually throw up. While using Ketamine one is less likely to feel pain and in turn could end up inflicting injury or harm to themselves without even knowing it. In addition, one can be submerged in their hallucinations without realizing that they are hallucinating. Eating or drinking before taking the drug can cause vomiting.

Information regarding the long-term effects of Ketamine is mainly anecdotal. Flashbacks of experiences and hallucinations while under the influence of the drug have been reported. There have also been suggestions that long-term use of Ketamine can damage the memory and eyesight of the user, as well as reducing attention span. Frequent use can cause disruptions in consciousness and lead to neuroses or other mental disorders.

A BBC report in May 2000 claimed that medical research had shown that controlled tests on Ketamine users had revealed impaired memory and mild schizophrenia several days after taking the drug.

Two psychological difficulties which seem to come up for those who use Ketamine regularly are paranoia and egocentrism. There are many reports of regular users starting to see patterns and coincidences (synchronicities) in the world around them which seem to indicate that they are somehow more important or integral to the world than others. This same sense of the world focusing on the user can also feed into a sense of paranoia.
A main characteristic of Ketamine is a stupor similar to extreme drunkenness. This is commonly known as ?being in the K-hole.?
increase heart rate
slurred speech
paralyzed feeling
nausea
unable to move
hallucination
numbness
impaired attention, memory and learning ability
delirium, amnesia, impaired motor function, high blood pressure, depression and potentially fatal respiratory problems at higher doses
My centerments exactly fuzz why couldn't the protector of the realm of earth take out 3 guards in a lunatic asylum, I'm sorry but this had to be the worst episode I have ever seen, and what was with the blue blood ? I find it very ironic that the director had to explain himself before the episode started so that tells me that the production team new it was not going to go down well with the fans. And why the hell did Raiden need help from a lunatic inmate to escape ? This has to be the epic of all failures .
I thought it was the best episode yet
I think the best part was at the end when raiden teleported to what looked like a chinese community village and reclaimed his hat, as for mortal kombat origins I don't recall raiden being bound and gagged in a funny farm !! Still the other episodes was awesome, I am awaiting sub zero and scorpion. I was very disapointed with episode 6.
This morning, I saw only 2 minutes and 10 seconds exactly. I stopped watching it, and I don't plan on finishing it.

This was worse than Kitana/Mileena's episode.
That's exactly what you people been saying - Rebirth...
And I hate it...
And script is ridiculous...
Awsome episode. I had my doubts from that rebirth concept trailer, the odd samurai mask, and the dumbass censoring but this show is pretty good...
The episode had a few high points but after watching the other episodes this was just completely and utterly wrong but none the less the series is rocking and I am waiting for the main event Scorpion and Sub zero ! ! !
I thought it was a bad ass fucking episode and whoever don't like it is nothing more than a whining bitch. I'm up to date on all of the episodes and this one plus the Johnny Cage episode is my fave. Some you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, period.

Ok answer me this one ! Every episode has pretty retold the MK story to exact specification and personaly have loved everyone of them, do you think raiden being admited into a mental wing has anything to do with MK what's so ever or better still do you think its a good take on raidens storyline because I certainly don't ??

Technically he wasn't "admitted", he was mistaken for an escaped mental patient. Second, who cares if it had nothing to do with the story. The key is re-telling the story from a realistic, what-if standpoint. People who do that are going a whole different direction than anticipated. All that was was adding a little kick to the story. It didn't take away from the actual story, just an add-on, that's all. They probably thought "hmmm, no one really knows what Raiden was doing before the tournament, maybe we could take that into account and build it up somehow." There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everyone is expecting this fantasy adventure where everyone is using all of this bullshit magic to do everything, but what people are getting is realism and they can't handle it. Personally I love this direction they're going because it actually caters and speaks to a more mature audience rather than a bunch of fanboys. If the episodes to follow, plus the supposed second season are anything like this, a lot of those people are going to be sorely pissed.

I'm all for realism but I just couldn't get into the whole mental facility theme some people may have taken to this I did not, I love the dark gritty theme that the series has took on but this particular episode to me was one step to far, Raiden is the god of thunder and the protector of earthrealm how the hell does he expect to take on shao khan when he can't even tackle a bunch off white coated flid doctors is beyond me, there is realism and there is taking away franchise away from its true values, I personaly loved the first MK movie but the second film was a failiure, the first movie was dark and gritty with an added touch of fantasy which I liked. Going back to the series the first five episodes was superb but I was not to taken by this episode because it lacked all the qualities what we would expect for an MK themed series.
It's pure speculation that deviates the fans from what they love.
Waaaaaaaaayyyy better than the kitana and mileena episodes. I loved it
