Hmmm, the rumors were true.
Warner Bros. is indeed interested in purchasing
Midway. Today, video game publisher
Midway has announced that it has accepted a bid of $33 million dollars from
Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that
Warner Bros. has purchased
Midway, but it does show that
Warner Bros. has made the first bid, and
Midway has accepted. However, the bankruptcy courts can reject the offer, or another company can submit a higher bid.
What's odd is it appears that not all of
Midway's assets will be included in the sale. Its San Diego and Newcastle studios are not part of the deal, as well as the
TNA Wrestling games, but its Chicago studio and the
Mortal Kombat franchise are. Ugh...are we going to be seeing more
MK vs. DCU games in the future?
Company's U.S. assets including its Mortal Kombat franchise and its development studios in Chicago and Seattle for a purchase price of $33,000,000, subject to adjustment as of the closing for changes in inventory, plus the agreed value of the Company's U.S. account receivables. The agreement does not include the Company?s development studio in San Diego and the TNA franchise games, nor does it include the Company?s development studio in Newcastle which had developed the Company's recently released Wheelman game.
