The Subway debuted in Mortal Kombat 3 during Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm. It also appeared in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Both versions of this arena featured a stage fatality where the loser could be knocked onto the tracks where they would be killed by an oncoming train.

In the original version, the names "Boon" and "Tobias" could be seen on a sign in the background. However, in the updated Armageddon version, they have been replaced with "North" and "South". This is obviously due to John Tobias leaving Midway after Mortal Kombat 4.
