During a panel today at the San Diego Comic Con, Netherrealm Studios unveiled tons of new details of what's in store for Mortal Kombat 1. More▼The Khaos Reigns expansion will consist of all new story chapters and a Kombat Pack 2, which will include new versions of Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot, along with guest characters Ghostface from the Scream movie franchise, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000 from Terminator 2.
Also revealed at the end of the trailer is that Animalities will be returning as a free update to all who purchase the expansion.
The Khaos Reigns expansion is set to release on September 24th. Pre-ordering will also earn you four free skins - Wedding Scorpion, UMK3 Sub-Zero, Empress Mileena, and UMK3 Noob Saibot.

Honestly, I can't say I'm surprised. The direction Netherrealm has taken with Mortal Kombat 1 has had a fairly luke-warm reception since its release. Here are some of the most common complaints I've seen over the past year:
- the new kameo system and not being able to turn it off
- the loss of so many features from MK11 such as custom load-outs and three pieces of customizable gear per fighter
- the new Invasions mode replacing the Krypt
- the radical changes made to long-time favorite characters, most notably Sektor and Cyrax now being female.

According to Insider-Gaming and many other sources, the entire mobile team at Netherrealm Studios has been let go. It's being reported that roughly 50 people have been affected. More▼This is an unfortunate development. Maybe this is a sign that gamers are getting tired of microtransaction driven games, and it's just not a sustainable model for larger studios like Netherrealm.
